In this post, we'll be comparing between two different pairs of hype sneaker. Or what I would consider a legendary comparison. The all-time classic Jordan 1 'Bred' from Nike x Jordan brand and the Yeezy Boost 350 'Turtle Dove' from adidas x Kanye West.

The Air Jordan 1 was designed by Peter C. Moore and was originally released in 1985. More than 30 years of history and story on this pair of basketball shoe that slowly evolved into a lifestyle sneaker throughout the years. As of current year 2017, The Air Jordan 1 is no longer just a simple basketball shoe worn by basketball players but instead worn as a casual lifestyle sneaker by people from different parts of the world regardless of gender, race, and religion. Michael Jordan was infamously known for wearing his own basketball shoes during his basketball games and the one that had the most significant saga was the Jordan 1.

Just one simple event that occurred with the Jordan 1 that I believe most sneakerheads or jordanheads would know. The Jordan 1 with the black and red colorway, commonly known as the 'Bred' was being banned from the NBA as it doesn't match the color and style of the shoes worn by the other teammates and MJ had to pay a fine of a steep USD$5000 or SGD$6800 per game whenever he wore the shoe. However, Nike gladly paid the fine on his behalf which turns out to be a very successful advertising tool. It attracted much attention from the public and shelves from many shops were cleared pretty soon and I believe this is how it became one of the 'Greatest Sneaker of All Time'.

In the previous post, I did a comparison between the Yeezy Boost 350 V1 and V2 and in my opinion, the V1 was definitely a bigger hit compared to the V2 since it is a more limited release which therefore made the hype much more valued. The Yeezy Boost 350 was designed by Kanye West and with the help of adidas, it was released in 2015. Though only a short 2 years since the release date, you can easily see and hear Yeezy being one of the main topics among sneakerheads and some of the general public. Resale price is also rocket high for a pair of adidas sneaker. Also, because of this collaboration, I believe many people did jump on the three stripes bandwagon.

The Yeezy Boost may not have a great history and meaningful story behind it. As a matter of fact, it is the power of influence that made the hype exceptionally real. The hype is definitely real where Kanye West is involved. His impact in the fashion and sneaker culture played a major role in ensuring the success of this collaboration and I believe most sneakerheads would agree with me that Nike had really slipped the opportunity on creating the next Air Yeezy 3.

The reason why I made this comparison review is because I personally believe 'Air Jordan' was the best collaboration that Nike has ever done throughout all these years and it is the one and only collaboration where many different variations were remade along the years or some would called it 'retros',  and yet there are still many people paying resale price for it.

Likewise, for adidas, the collaboration between adidas and Kanye West was one of the greatest as well. It could be claimed as one of adidas's most successful collaborations yet and the Yeezy Boost 350 can be easily regarded as the Holy Grail of adidas.

Comparing a GOAT with a GOAT, it is just so hard to decide which is Hotter. Both have their own strengths but I believe neither of each could ever overpower each other.

As for my personal own preference, I would crown the Air Jordan 1 the champion. Not only because I have a stronger bias for Nike, but this shoe has such a great and meaningful history to it plus the recognition it gets is just crazy. 32 years since the first release and 5 retros throughout the years (1985, 1994, 2001, 2013, 2016). I just feel that no other basketball sneaker could ever beat this Jordan 1. There is just too much merit incorporated into this shoe and this shoe have a significant meaning to me as well. This was the very first pair of sneaker I bought for myself when I first got into the sneaker culture. I believe it is as meaningful to me as it is to others.

Lastly, like I've mentioned above, the Air Jordan 1 started off as a basketball shoe then slowly evolved into a casual lifestyle sneaker and now a hypebeast item whether it is worn or not, it's still considered a grail.
